PTA Regular Session Meeting
Date: September 16th, 2004
Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Place: Linlee Elementary Library

AGENDA
1. Fall Carnival- Friday October
15th, 2004 5:30pm 7:00pm
-Melissa Lawrence spoke about the fall carnival. She explained the area
of help that are needed.
Theme, baskets, food, prizes, decorations, food, and parent volunteer.
-Mary Jo Dendy discussed the food drive.
-Linlee competes against area elementary schools
-Linlee gathered 2700 pounds of food last school year 03/04
-Linlee’s goal this year is to collect 3000 pounds
-types of food to donate are: canned or boxed items (non-perishables)
-YOU WILL BE ALLOWED to bring in non-perishables at the Fall Carnival and
use for tickets
-Classroom teachers will receive an incentive from the PTA for the most
food collected (they will
receive a gift certificate from the PTA)

Kids Day Sept. 28th
-Melissa Lawrence explained what Kids Day is and what the PTA planned for
that day
3. Fundraiser
-books came home September 16th, explained what classes
receive if they sell the most

Budget
-Julie Partington, treasurer for Linlee PTA gave budget totals from
2003/2004 school year and
the totals for 2004/2005 school year. A copy of last two years PTA audit
past out to parents
-Linlee PTA will start the school year 04/05 with $8416.42.
-Julie Martin and Pam Thompson motioned to adopt budget
-List of items that PTA will purchase: White boards, maps, and computers
-Parents wanted to know how they could donate or purchase computers
for Linlee (possible
solutions was to have parents purchase give to PTA then PTA gives to
school)
-It was explained that FCPS has certain rules that it must follow in
purchasing computers
-Will get Lisa Spaulding to supply a list of approved vendors to parents
so they may donate
-Julie Martin and Pam Thompson motioned to adopt amended budget proposal

Membership
-Julie Partington explained that of the $3.00 dues to join PTA, that the
State (PTA) receives $2.75,
and the District (PTA) receives .10 cents that leaves .15 cents for the
Linlee PTA
-103 Parents signed up for 04/05 Linlee PTA (that is an increase of 6
more than last year 03/04)

6. Box
Tops
-Julie Partington discussed what Box tops,
-Mary Jo Dendy stated that Linlee was a top performing school for 03/04
-Money received from these programs is given to teachers. The PTA buys
needed items for teachers
in their classrooms.
-Some parents suggested a class competition for the most box tops, soul
labels brought in. Construct
a chart and put stickers by classroom who has collected the most

Misc. (Agenda for next meeting) Bus Driver appreciation?
-discussed some way to show appreciation to bus drivers and
bus monitors
-bring in muffins and drinks in the morning and pass out to them
-Several parents wanted a class instruction on terminology for homework,
they want sessions
where teachers from all grades come in and give a short session on
homework/classroom work
-PTA Board Members suggested that parents meet more frequently with
teachers or email them if
they have questions or concerns.
-Suggested
contact could be Ms. Mead who is the literacy coach and she would be helpful
with
Questions
-Parents want to help with textbook shortage (especially math textbooks)
-Parents wanted the PTA to buy textbooks; Julie Partington explained the
stance of the National
PTA (the National PTA states that textbooks are a state responsibility)
Parents
were encouraged to sign up to volunteer for the fall carnival
Meeting
adjourned so parents could meet with New Teachers
