ASIST : American Society for Information Science & Technology
The mission of the American Society for Information Science and Technology is to advance the information sciences and related applications of information technology by providing focus, opportunity, and support to information professionals and organizations. Establish new information
professionalism in a world where information is of central importance to

ASIST was founded on March 13, 1937, as the American Documentation Institute (ADI). Its initial interest was in the development of microfilm as an aid to learning. The name change took effect January 1, 1968, and emphasized the fact that the membership of ASIS is uniquely concerned with all aspects of the information transfer process, a national professional organization for those concerned with designing, managing, and using information systems and technology. Another name change took place in 2000 when the organization added the "& Technology" to the former ASIS name. Membership Prices: Regular $115, Student $30

One of the newest student chapters of ASIS, the University of Kentucky's chapter has already made a name for itself by being the largest student chapter in the history of ASIS, with over 55 members, drawing from library & information science, telecommunications, and computer science, among others. Our chapter is sponsored by the Southern Ohio chapter of ASIS(SOASIS).
